Review: Goodfellas is a masterpiece, pure and simple. While not my favorite Martin Scorsese film is a great achievement, and one of his best films. The film technically stunning. Consistently fine, which makes for a great ensemble cast (both known and unknown), cinematography, editing, dialogue, brilliant use of music, it's all breathtaking. But Scorsese and co-writer Mitch Pileggi will never forget losing their main goal - to tell the story. And it is really hard to beat in this movie. What actors De Niro is in top condition, Ray Liotta is the best hes ever had, and it's Joe Pescis final performance. Plus you have the Lorraine The Bracco, Paul Sorvino, Michael Imperioli, and a lot of familiar faces in small but important role (Debi Mazar, Samuel L. Jackson, Illeana Douglas, Kevin Corrigan), plus dozens of unknown players (and not actors) are all so good just seems unfair to identify the stars. (Keep an eye on Vincent Gallo a few scenes., He has no lines, but looks cool!). Goodfellas is (so far) Scorsese's last good film, and one of the best movies of the 1990s. Imperative to watch a film fan, this huge movie not to be missed! Highly recommended!
